Beneath the Starry Night

By the sinister call of the night bird,
footsteps unseen but heard,
we make our way down the hill,
down the forest waiting still,
by the riverside.

Peeking together across the clearing,
watching the silent intoxicated flowing,
we steal a boat and lie down low,
and I paddle with my hand so slow,
amidst the sea water flowing.

We stop at the centre,we spread a quilt,
present you early gathered flowers at wilt,
and lie quiet in each others arms,
hear you humming,lying calm,
unlike you,so prone to love-less guilt.

Beneath the stars and above the water,
beneath the moon in its first quarter,
crescent and effervescent,
spreading light so I can see your face,
and watch you abashed, hide in my embrace.

As we sleep this vessel will fly,
take us to the edge of the sky,
when you awaken, you can reach out and touch,
the horizon you love so much.

Taking your hand, making you grab a star stuck high,
we pull it apart and watch it sail across the sky,
we make a wish..a common pledge,
to be together as long as the edge
of the sky holds unfulfilled dreams,
Stars - rising and falling along the moonbeams
